DJI Zenmuse XT
About the DJI Zenmuse XT
The DJI Zenmuse XT is a thermal-only FLIR gimbal payload with 640×512 or 336×256 uncooled VOx variants and model-specific fixed lenses. DJI documents Standard and Advanced Radiometry versions; verify the exact unit before promising quantitative temperature functions.
Technical Specifications
| Type | Thermal payload (FLIR) |
| Dimensions / Weight | 103×74×102 mm / 270 g |
| Thermal Imager | Uncooled VOx microbolometer; 640×512 or 336×256 variants; NETD <50 mK at f/1.0 |
| Scene Range | High gain: 640×512 -25° to 135° C; 336×256 -25° to 100° C. Low gain: -40° to 550° C. These are DJI scene ranges, not a universal radiometry entitlement. |
| Lens Options | 6.8/7.5/9/13/19 mm across the XT family; supported resolution/lens combinations vary by exact model |
| Gimbal | ±0.03° angular vibration |
| Full frame rate | 30 Hz NTSC or 25 Hz PAL for either sensor resolution |
| Exportable frame rate | 7.5 Hz NTSC or 8.3 Hz PAL; distinct from full sensor frame rate |
| Pixel pitch / spectral band | 17 µm; 7.5–13.5 µm |
| Digital zoom | 640×512 variants: 2×/4×/8×; 336×256 variants: 2×/4× |
| Still / video formats | DJI lists JPEG, R-JPEG or TIFF photos and MP4 video; radiometric features depend on exact version |
| Lens construction | Fixed integrated lens; resolution and focal-length combinations differ by XT model |
| Gimbal control range | Tilt +35° to -90°; pan ±320°; roll ±15° |
| Operating temperature | -10° to 40° C |
| Aircraft pairing | DJI lists Inspire 1 and Matrice series; M200 Series use needs a gimbal adapter and may require XT upgrade |
| Radiometry variant | DJI SDK distinguishes XT Standard from XT Advanced Radiometry; confirm actual SKU before temperature-measurement claims |

Common Failure Modes
Symptoms: Thermal view is missing or uneven, or a temperature reading on an Advanced Radiometry unit differs from a controlled reference.
Likely areas: Lens/window condition, gain and palette settings, FFC/calibration state, environment and sensor path.
Check the exact model and DJI thermal test procedure before declaring the sensor defective.
Symptoms: The thermal image is blurred or the gimbal moves abnormally.
Likely areas: Integrated lens/window, gain and FFC settings, gimbal, mount and firmware.
The XT has no separate visible-light camera; keep thermal and aircraft-link checks distinct.
Symptoms: The aircraft does not detect the payload or a channel/control is unavailable.
Likely areas: Supported aircraft/controller firmware, connector contacts, power and data link.
Power off before reseating; a firmware or pairing limit is not proof of board damage.
Symptoms: Wet contacts, damaged housing, scratched window or corrosion after exposure.
Likely areas: Seals, windows, contacts and internal power path.
Follow the exact model IP rating; no Zenmuse payload should be treated as submersible.
Repair Notes
Identify XT resolution, fixed lens and Standard versus Advanced Radiometry version; this is a thermal-only payload without a visible-light channel.
Record ambient conditions, gain, palette and calibration/FFC behavior using a controlled reference; do not infer sensor failure from one scene.
Power off before detaching the payload. Inspect connector contacts, housing and optical surfaces without forcing gimbal axes.
Retest thermal imaging and gimbal on the supported aircraft. Only test quantitative temperature workflow when the exact XT version supports Advanced Radiometry.
