Common Failure Modes

Point-cloud gaps or reduced range medium

Symptoms: Sparse returns, missing surfaces or lower range than the published controlled-test figure.

Likely areas: Target reflectivity, rain/fog/dust, warm-up, flight geometry and LiDAR window condition.

Compare the actual conditions with the DJI test limits; do not diagnose the transmitter from range alone.

RGB or positioning mismatch medium

Symptoms: Colorized points or mapping checkpoints do not align as expected.

Likely areas: GNSS/RTK or PPK source, time synchronization, calibration, processing settings and RGB path where fitted.

Review the complete acquisition and post-processing workflow before replacing hardware.

Payload recognition or gimbal fault high

Symptoms: The aircraft does not recognize the LiDAR or gimbal control is abnormal.

Likely areas: Supported aircraft and connector, firmware, power, gimbal and mount.

Power off before inspecting the detachable mount; record the exact aircraft/connector version.

Ingress or optical-window concern high

Symptoms: Wet contacts, damaged seals, contamination or visible damage to the optical window.

Likely areas: Housing, window, seals, contacts and storage conditions.

Do not direct-view an operating laser aperture through optical magnifiers; follow the exact DJI manual and isolate damaged equipment.

Repair Notes

Model and mount

Identify L1, L2 or L3 exactly; confirm supported aircraft, connector, firmware and power before diagnosing a payload fault.

Measurement context

Record flight height, scanning mode, target reflectivity, visibility, RTK/PPK status and DJI Terra settings when assessing point-cloud quality.

Window and power safety

Power off before detaching the payload. Keep the optical window clean using the manufacturer procedure; avoid direct viewing through magnifiers.

Return to service

After service, verify recognition, gimbal motion, raw-data recording and a controlled mapping/checkpoint comparison.

DJI Zenmuse L3 — frequently asked questions

Which DJI aircraft is the DJI Zenmuse L3 compatible with?
The DJI Zenmuse L3 is designed for the Matrice 400. Always confirm the aircraft firmware supports the payload before mounting.
What type of payload is the DJI Zenmuse L3?
The DJI Zenmuse L3 is a long-range LiDAR payload.
How much does the DJI Zenmuse L3 weigh?
1.60 kg without the single gimbal connector (the connector weighs 145 g).
What is the DJI Zenmuse L3's ingress protection (IP) rating?
IP54. Payloads are weather-resistant, not waterproof — never submerge them.
What should I check if DJI Zenmuse L3 has a problem?
For point-cloud gaps or reduced range, first record visibility, target reflectivity, scanning mode, warm-up and RTK/PPK conditions. A failed aircraft link or abnormal gimbal needs exact mount/firmware checks before a hardware diagnosis.
Where can I get a DJI Zenmuse L3 repaired?
Request an assessment through Reboot Hub. Serviceability, parts, cost and timing depend on the exact unit and are confirmed before a repair is accepted. Open a repair ticket.
