Why is a Ronin 4D different from a drone import?

The Ronin 4D combines a cinema camera, recorder and stabilized platform. It does not fly, so the unmanned-aircraft heading used for a Mavic does not describe it. Thai Customs has separate camera subheadings under the current tariff, and classification can depend on what the integrated equipment does and how the imported kit is presented.

Send the broker the manufacturer's product description, photographs and a complete packing list. Ask for a written code and rate basis for the exact configuration. If lenses, storage media, batteries or cases are separate invoice lines, let the broker determine whether they remain part of one set or require separate treatment.

How should origin and preferential treatment be checked?

A shipment leaving China is not automatically entitled to a preferential rate. The imported goods must satisfy the rule of origin for the applicable tariff line and be supported by the form or electronic evidence accepted for that route. Ask the exporter what evidence it can issue before treating any preference as part of the budget.

Have the Thai broker review the origin document against the invoice, product description, exporter and transport route. If the document is missing, inconsistent or does not cover the goods, budget using the confirmed non-preferential treatment rather than relying on a promise that Customs will accept it later.

What belongs in a defensible landed-cost worksheet?

List the supported transaction value, freight and insurance first. Add the duty confirmed for the classification and origin, then the current import-VAT calculation and the broker or carrier charges in the contract. Keep contingency separate so the planning number does not look like an official Customs assessment.

For a pre-owned unit, preserve the serial, condition report, included modules and payment evidence. A materially low value without supporting condition evidence can create questions. A DDP quote should identify the importer of record, taxes included, excluded events and the remedy if Customs changes the assessment.

How should the batteries and production kit be prepared?

Record each battery model and the watt-hour value printed on its label. Ask the carrier which IATA packing instruction and documentation apply to batteries packed with or contained in the equipment, and confirm that the battery has the required UN 38.3 test evidence. Do not infer acceptance from another carrier or another battery model.

Before payment, match the camera body, gimbal, recorder, monitor, mounts, media and batteries to the invoice. Request a power-on recording and a function report for the exact serial. The objective is a kit that can be received, insured and put into a production test without discovering that a critical module was excluded.
