CAAM separates lower-risk Standard Authorisation to Fly operations from Special UAS Project operations that need additional support because of added risk. A race can involve several aircraft, rapid manoeuvres, spectators, structures, video transmitters and a defined course, so the organizer should not decide the category from the event name alone.
Send CAAM the site plan, airspace, course volume, aircraft classes, pilot competence, race format, people-control method and emergency actions. Ask which current form and supporting package apply. If the course or format changes, reassess the approval rather than assuming the first decision covers a materially different event.
How should spectators and pilots be contained?
Create separate flight, pilot, marshal, spectator, charging and recovery zones.
