DJI Mini 2 vs Mini 2 SE: 4K, QuickTransfer & Used Value

Mini 2 is the stronger choice for 4K recording, 2.7K slow motion and direct phone downloads with QuickTransfer. Mini 2 SE can be better value for 1080p delivery or RAW photography when its actual kit is less expensive and better documented. Do not pay a premium for an assumed flight-time advantage.

What changes between these two Minis?

  • DJI Mini 2

    Recorded video
4K up to 30fps; 2.7K and 1080p up to 60fps. Maximum video bitrate: 100 Mbps.
    Still photographs
1/2.3-inch sensor, 12 MP; JPEG and DNG RAW.
    File workflow
QuickTransfer connects the aircraft directly to a phone for downloads.

The reason to choose it: preserve a 4K master or get original files onto a compatible phone without reconnecting the controller.

  • DJI Mini 2 SE

    Recorded video
2.7K up to 30fps; 1080p up to 60fps. Maximum video bitrate: 40 Mbps.
    Still photographs
1/2.3-inch sensor, 12 MP; JPEG and DNG RAW.
    File workflow
No QuickTransfer. Use the documented controller/app download route or a suitable card reader.

The reason to choose it: avoid paying for recording and transfer features you will not use, while retaining RAW stills and a three-axis gimbal.

4K matters when the finished work needs it

Mini 2 records 3840 by 2160 video at 24, 25 or 30fps. Mini 2 SE's highest recording mode is 2720 by 1530 at those frame rates. If the brief requires an original 4K file, Mini 2 SE does not meet it. Exporting its footage into a 4K project changes the output dimensions, not the detail captured by the camera.

For a 1080p travel film, both provide enough source pixels for a full-frame edit. Mini 2 leaves more room for reframing before reaching 1920 by 1080: mathematically, its 4K frame has twice the width and height of Full HD. Mini 2 SE's 2.7K frame provides about 1.42 times each dimension. These are pixel-dimension comparisons, not measured image-quality scores or promises of lossless digital zoom.

Frame rate is the less obvious distinction. Mini 2 offers 2.7K at 48, 50 and 60fps as well as the lower rates; Mini 2 SE stops at 30fps in 2.7K. Both reach 60fps in Full HD. A 60fps clip played at 30fps can run at half speed without inventing intermediate frames, so Mini 2 gives that option at a higher recording resolution. Neither offers 4K/60fps.

The bitrate figures are ceilings, not fixed file sizes. At a constant 100 Mbps, one minute would be about 750 MB; at 40 Mbps, about 300 MB, using decimal units and excluding overhead. Actual files vary. This planning calculation explains why a 4K workflow may need more card capacity and backup time; it is not a claim that Mini 2 always records exactly 2.5 times as much data.

RAW photography is not exclusive to Mini 2

Both manuals list a 1/2.3-inch, 12 MP CMOS camera with a 24mm-equivalent f/2.8 lens. Both support JPEG and DNG RAW, plus three-frame automatic exposure bracketing at 2/3 EV steps. Mini 2 SE should not be confused with the earlier Mini SE when evaluating photographic features.

If you mainly edit still photographs, paying extra solely for a "4K camera" label misses the relevant comparison. Check the DNG file, exposure and lens condition instead. RAW gives an editing workflow; it does not make this a larger-sensor camera or guarantee recovery of clipped highlights. For a used purchase, ask for an original file where available rather than judging fine detail from a compressed listing thumbnail.

QuickTransfer changes the end of the outing

Mini 2 can connect directly to a mobile device through Wi-Fi for file downloads in DJI Fly. The manual describes QuickTransfer without a remote controller and gives a maximum of 20 MB/s under supported 5.8 GHz conditions. It also documents a lower ceiling when the connection falls back to 2.4 GHz. Phone support, permitted frequencies and interference affect the result.

Mini 2 SE does not support QuickTransfer, as confirmed by DJI's model-comparison and export guidance. This does not mean its originals are inaccessible: the documented app route uses the aircraft, controller and connected phone. A compatible microSD reader is another practical file-copy option.

  • Mini 2: direct phone workflow
    1. Finish flying and stop the motors.
    2. Connect through QuickTransfer in DJI Fly.
    3. Download selected originals and verify the files.
  • Mini 2 SE: controller or card workflow
    1. Finish flying and stop the motors.
    2. Use the connected controller/app route, or power down before removing the card.
    3. Copy the originals and verify the files.

For a phone-first traveller posting between stops, this can be worth more than the resolution difference. For someone who always imports cards into a computer at home, QuickTransfer may add little. Test the workflow on your own phone before treating it as a reason to pay more. The 20 MB/s transfer figure uses megabytes, while the camera's Mbps figure uses megabits; they describe different parts of the process.

The 31-minute comparison needs a version check

Mini 2's international version and Mini 2 SE both list a 31-minute maximum flight-time reference, measured at 17 kph in windless conditions. That is not 31 minutes of guaranteed usable shooting time, and it does not prove two used batteries have equal remaining capacity.

There is an important exception in Mini 2's manual: its JP version is listed with an 18-minute reference and a 1065 mAh battery, compared with 2250 mAh for the international version. An imported used listing labelled only "Mini 2" therefore needs a battery and regional-version check. Do not copy the international flight time onto a Japanese-market configuration without verifying what is actually supplied.

Ask for readable battery labels and the number of batteries included in the chosen option. A bag containing several batteries is useful only when they are the correct type and their condition is supported by the available record. Cosmetic cleanliness is not a battery-health measurement. Do not combine parts across regional versions on the strength of this comparison; verify the approved configuration separately.

Shared O2 does not mean a 4K live view

Both manuals document OcuSync 2.0 and a 720p/30fps live view. Mini 2's higher-quality recording is stored on the aircraft's microSD card; it does not turn the controller display into a 4K feed. For editing, obtain the original file rather than treating a phone cache or screen recording as the camera master.

Both models use downward vision and infrared sensing for positioning. Neither provides forward obstacle avoidance. A return-home function or an automated QuickShot is not a substitute for a clear route. For a beginner, spending more on Mini 2 does not buy the surrounding obstacle detection found on some more advanced models.

Both manuals describe the RC-N1 phone-controller setup. Check the controller model, phone cable and actual pairing evidence in the listing. Similar names such as RC-N1, RC-N1C and DJI RC are not interchangeable buying instructions. This comparison does not approve every screen controller or accessory carrying a Mini-series label.

Judge a used offer by the missing pieces

Compare the selected options, not the lowest headline prices. A practical total is the aircraft offer plus the missing controller, usable batteries, charging equipment and storage you actually need, followed by the shipping and destination charges shown for your order. This is a comparison method, not a live quotation.

  1. Confirm the aircraft identity. Ask for the model label and camera-side photographs. Mini 2, Mini 2 SE and Mini SE are different names, even when folded top views look similar.
  2. Check the intended recording mode. For Mini 2, request evidence of an original 4K recording where available. For Mini 2 SE, verify the promised 2.7K or RAW workflow instead of asking it to deliver an unsupported mode.
  3. Inspect the moving and recording parts. Review arms, propeller mounts, gimbal movement, lens glass and the microSD slot. Ask what was inspected and what was not; do not interpret a generic "tested" label as a complete laboratory assessment.
  4. Reconcile the package. Match the selected controller, battery labels, charger and cables to the item photos and included-item notes. A Fly More name alone does not establish the contents of a resale package.

Our buying judgment: choose the better-documented Mini 2 when you need its specific recording or transfer advantages. When your output fits Mini 2 SE, a healthier, complete kit can matter more than the Mini 2 badge. Review the Reboot Hub Standard and the applicable warranty terms alongside the actual product record.

Questions that change the purchase

Does Mini 2 SE support RAW photos?

Yes. Its manual lists JPEG and DNG RAW. Mini 2 also supports both; RAW alone is not a reason to reject Mini 2 SE.

Does Mini 2 SE have QuickTransfer?

No. DJI documents QuickTransfer for Mini 2, but not Mini 2 SE. Mini 2 SE can export original files through its controller/app connection or a suitable card reader.

Is every Mini 2 a 31-minute configuration?

No. The Mini 2 manual lists 31 minutes for the international version and 18 minutes for the JP version under its stated test conditions. Verify the supplied version and battery.

Is Mini 2 SE the same drone as Mini SE?

No. They are separate DJI models. Do not transfer camera, transmission or controller information from a Mini SE listing to Mini 2 SE.
