Common Failure Modes

Image or focus issue medium

Symptoms: Photos or video are soft, black, distorted or fail to focus where focus is supported.

Likely areas: Lens, focus mechanism, sensor path, settings and connector.

Check the lens and capture settings before treating the sensor as defective.

Gimbal stabilization fault high

Symptoms: Horizon tilt, vibration, overload or abnormal gimbal movement.

Likely areas: Gimbal, mount, dampers, firmware and calibration.

Do not force the gimbal; verify a controlled stabilization test after service.

Capture or storage failure medium

Symptoms: Recording stops, files are missing or the camera is not recognized.

Likely areas: microSD/CINESSD, corresponding Inspire 2 License Key, recording settings, firmware, mount and data path.

Check format entitlement and media path before treating a missing advanced codec as a camera fault.

Ingress or impact damage high

Symptoms: Damaged housing, scratched optics, wet contacts or corrosion after exposure.

Likely areas: Housing, lens, contacts and internal power path.

Follow the model-specific IP rating and isolate a damaged unit before reuse.

Repair Notes

Model and lens

Confirm the exact Zenmuse camera, lens and aircraft/firmware pairing; similar bodies do not prove interchangeability.

Imaging check

Test image, interchangeable-lens focus and ordinary H.264/H.265 microSD capture. Test CinemaDNG/ProRes only after confirming the matching Inspire 2 License Key and DJI CINESSD.

Mount safety

Power off before detaching the payload. Inspect connector contacts and gimbal movement without forcing the axes.

Return to service

After service, verify stabilization, representative still/video capture and file integrity in a controlled test.

DJI Zenmuse X5S — frequently asked questions

What type of payload is the DJI Zenmuse X5S?
The DJI Zenmuse X5S is an interchangeable-lens Micro Four Thirds camera payload for Inspire 2.
How much does the DJI Zenmuse X5S weigh?
140×98×132 mm / approx. 461 g (incl. lens).
What should I check if DJI Zenmuse X5S has a problem?
For image, focus, gimbal or recording trouble, check the lens, firmware, media and Inspire 2 pairing first. Missing CinemaDNG or ProRes also requires checking the appropriate Inspire 2 License Key and DJI CINESSD before diagnosing a camera fault.
Where can I get a DJI Zenmuse X5S repaired?
Request an assessment through Reboot Hub. Serviceability, parts, cost and timing depend on the exact unit and are confirmed before a repair is accepted. Open a repair ticket.
Does the Zenmuse X5S camera alone enable CinemaDNG or ProRes?
No. DJI says the corresponding Inspire 2 License Key unlocks CinemaDNG and/or Apple ProRes processing in CineCore 2.0, and those files are stored on DJI CINESSD. Confirm the installed license and media before expecting advanced formats.
Where does the Zenmuse X5S store ordinary video?
DJI lists H.264/H.265 video and normal JPEG/DNG images on microSD. Licensed CinemaDNG/ProRes video and RAW bursts use DJI CINESSD; a microSD card remains required for image capture.
