About the DJI Zenmuse XT

The DJI Zenmuse XT is a thermal-only FLIR gimbal payload with 640×512 or 336×256 uncooled VOx variants and model-specific fixed lenses. DJI documents Standard and Advanced Radiometry versions; verify the exact unit before promising quantitative temperature functions.

Technical Specifications

TypeThermal payload (FLIR)

Pixel pitch / spectral band17 µm; 7.5–13.5 µm
Digital zoom640×512 variants: 2×/4×/8×; 336×256 variants: 2×/4×
Still / video formatsDJI lists JPEG, R-JPEG or TIFF photos and MP4 video; radiometric features depend on exact version
Lens constructionFixed integrated lens; resolution and focal-length combinations differ by XT model
Gimbal control rangeTilt +35° to -90°; pan ±320°; roll ±15°
Operating temperature-10° to 40° C
Aircraft pairingDJI lists Inspire 1 and Matrice series; M200 Series use needs a gimbal adapter and may require XT upgrade
Radiometry variantDJI SDK distinguishes XT Standard from XT Advanced Radiometry; confirm actual SKU before temperature-measurement claims

Common Failure Modes

Thermal image or radiometric anomaly medium

Symptoms: Thermal view is missing or uneven, or a temperature reading on an Advanced Radiometry unit differs from a controlled reference.

Likely areas: Lens/window condition, gain and palette settings, FFC/calibration state, environment and sensor path.

Check the exact model and DJI thermal test procedure before declaring the sensor defective.

Thermal image or gimbal problem medium

Symptoms: The thermal image is blurred or the gimbal moves abnormally.

Likely areas: Integrated lens/window, gain and FFC settings, gimbal, mount and firmware.

The XT has no separate visible-light camera; keep thermal and aircraft-link checks distinct.

Payload recognition or control loss high

Symptoms: The aircraft does not detect the payload or a channel/control is unavailable.

Likely areas: Supported aircraft/controller firmware, connector contacts, power and data link.

Power off before reseating; a firmware or pairing limit is not proof of board damage.

Moisture or optical damage high

Symptoms: Wet contacts, damaged housing, scratched window or corrosion after exposure.

Likely areas: Seals, windows, contacts and internal power path.

Follow the exact model IP rating; no Zenmuse payload should be treated as submersible.

Repair Notes

Model and radiometry version

Identify XT resolution, fixed lens and Standard versus Advanced Radiometry version; this is a thermal-only payload without a visible-light channel.

Thermal checks

Record ambient conditions, gain, palette and calibration/FFC behavior using a controlled reference; do not infer sensor failure from one scene.

Mount safety

Power off before detaching the payload. Inspect connector contacts, housing and optical surfaces without forcing gimbal axes.

Return to service

Retest thermal imaging and gimbal on the supported aircraft. Only test quantitative temperature workflow when the exact XT version supports Advanced Radiometry.

DJI Zenmuse XT — frequently asked questions

Does the DJI Zenmuse XT have a thermal camera?
Yes. DJI lists an uncooled VOx thermal imager with 640×512 or 336×256 model variants. Full sensor frame rate is 30 Hz NTSC or 25 Hz PAL; exportable frame rates are 7.5/8.3 Hz.
What type of payload is the DJI Zenmuse XT?
The DJI Zenmuse XT is a thermal-only FLIR gimbal payload with an integrated fixed lens.
How much does the DJI Zenmuse XT weigh?
103×74×102 mm / 270 g.
What should I check if DJI Zenmuse XT has a problem?
For a thermal-image problem, check the exact resolution/lens SKU, optical window, gain, palette, FFC and aircraft link. If temperature measurement is needed, first verify an Advanced Radiometry version; do not assume every XT has the same quantitative functions.
Where can I get a DJI Zenmuse XT repaired?
Request an assessment through Reboot Hub. Serviceability, parts, cost and timing depend on the exact unit and are confirmed before a repair is accepted. Open a repair ticket.
Does the Zenmuse XT include a separate visible-light camera?
No. DJI lists the Zenmuse XT as a thermal imager only; do not apply dual visible/thermal channel checks from the later XT2.
Do all Zenmuse XT versions provide Advanced Radiometry?
No. DJI SDK documentation distinguishes XT Standard and XT Advanced Radiometry versions. Confirm the exact device version before promising temperature analysis or radiometric files.
Can Zenmuse XT mount on Matrice 200 without extra checks?
DJI says Matrice 200 Series use requires a gimbal adapter, and some XT versions need an upgrade. Verify the exact airframe, mount, firmware and XT variant before installation.
